Excitement filled the air as Moraine Elementary gathered in September for a school-wide assembly to celebrate a remarkable achievement: being named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. From students to staff, everyone shared in the joy of this national recognition for their hard work and dedication. At the assembly, Moraine focused on what helped make this achievement possible: a commitment to student empowerment and student leadership. These values are at the heart of Moraine's culture and were instrumental in achieving the National Blue Ribbon recognition. "A 2024 National Blue Ribbon School, give yourselves a round of applause." As students cheered, they celebrated not only the honor but the shared pride in their school community's accomplishments. Then, the celebration continued in Washington DC. Principal Reimann, Superintendent Dr. RJ Webber, and second grade teacher Jennifer Frederick represented Moraine at the National Blue Ribbon awards ceremony. During their time in the capital, they took in historic monuments and landmarks, reflecting on the legacy of American education and their place within it. At the awards luncheon, they proudly accepted the Blue Ribbon flag and plaque on behalf of the Moraine community, a testament to the hard work of students, staff, and families. Back at Moraine, classrooms gathered to watch a live feed of the ceremony. Excitement reached a peak as they saw their school's name announced on the national stage. The students cheered, bursting with pride for their school and their teachers. But the celebration doesn't stop here. Moraine Elementary School has earned the prestigious 2024 National Blue Ribbon School designation from the U.S. Department of Education, an honor recognizing schools for academic excellence or notable progress in closing achievement gaps. This award places Moraine among only 12 Michigan schools and 356 schools nationwide to be celebrated this year.

In September, Moraine held a school-wide assembly to announce the award, focusing on the student empowerment and leadership that have been essential to Moraine’s success. Representing the Moraine community in Washington, D.C., Principal Reimann was joined by Northville Public Schools Superintendent Dr. RJ Webber and second-grade teacher Jennifer Frederick. During their time in the capital, the team attended an awards luncheon where Moraine received a National Blue Ribbon School flag and plaque. The event included opportunities to network with other Blue Ribbon educators, learn best practices, and listen to inspiring speeches from the National Teacher of the Year and the Secretary of Education.

“It was an honor representing the Moraine community at the National Blue Ribbon ceremony,” Reimann shared. “Hearing from incredible educators and meeting leaders from schools across the country gave us new insights to bring back home. I was moved by the photos and videos of our students cheering back in Michigan—it brought tears to my eyes seeing their pride.”
